BAGALKOT, KARNATAKA — In a horrific act of domestic violence, a 23-year-old woman was murdered by her husband in the Bilagi taluk of Karnataka’s Bagalkot district on Sunday. Driven by suspicions of an extramarital affair, the accused not only killed his wife but also forced her parents to watch her final moments via a live video call.
The victim, identified as Bhagyashree Jigaluru, had recently returned to her matrimonial home in Galagali village after spending two months at her parents’ house in Mahalingpur due to ongoing marital disputes. Police revealed that her husband, Praveen Jigaluru, had convinced her to return with promises of a peaceful fresh start. However, the reconciliation ended in tragedy just hours after her arrival.
According to preliminary police investigations, Praveen attacked Bhagyashree with a wooden stick before hanging her using a dupatta in their bedroom. As she fought for her life, Praveen recorded the harrowing ordeal, shared the video with friends and relatives, and made a direct video call to her parents—forcing them to helplessly watch their daughter gasp for breath.
Disturbing video footage that later surfaced online shows the victim suspended from the ceiling, with the couple’s wedding names still visible on the bedroom wall behind her.
Bilagi police have taken Praveen into custody and launched a full investigation into the murder. Authorities are currently gathering forensic evidence, recording statements from family members, and examining the distribution of the video clips as part of the ongoing legal proceedings.
